Physico-chemical and microbiological assessment of domestic water supply in Bontoc, Mountain Province, Philippines

Abstract This study determined the water quality of three major domestic sources Bontoc, Mountain Province, and recommended interventions to maintain parameters within values set by Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW). Results revealed that all average physico-chemical measured during wet dry seasons samples from different sampling points are allowable range except turbidity color just after typhoons prolonged strong rainfalls. As microbiological parameters, sources, storage tank, distribution line have a very high total coliform count, Escherichia coli content both seasons. For heterotrophic plate only Balabag Spring seasons, tank season, Gakhan season acceptable values. Findings indicate vulnerability microbial contamination. Thus, in is not potable therefore drinking purposes its present condition. To address supply problems, filtration systems may be included system design, intake tanks, or new reservoir.
